編輯推薦:Part of the browser-friendly Q&A series, this inviting introduction to America's pasttime features plenty of photos matched to brief, generously spaced blocks of text. The randomly ordered topics, presented in a question-and-answer format, range from rather basic ("What's a stolen base?") to more in-depth ("Who was Mr. October?") It's a shame that Craig Biggio's hit-by-pitch count only goes to the end of the 2005 season, and there is one inaccuracy: Jackie Robinson was not, in fact, the first African American to play pro ball. Still, the material is so diverse that readers are bound to find something of interest. Many current players are mentioned, and the Little Leagues, the Negro Leagues, and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League each get at least two separate entries. An interview with the chief curator at the Baseball Hall of Fame concludes. Though unlikely to earn MVP status, this solid title will readily serve larger collections.
