《月亮和六便士》是英國小說家威廉· 薩默賽特·毛姆的創(chuàng)作的長篇小說，作品以法國印象派畫家保羅·高更的生平為素材，描述了一個原本平凡的倫敦證券經(jīng)紀(jì)人思特里克蘭德，不惑之年，本來事業(yè)有成，家庭和睦，子女雙全，但是為了追求自己內(nèi)心的繪畫夢想，拋妻棄子，離家跑到巴黎開始畫畫。最后去到了一座孤島-塔希提島，找到了自己的"歸宿"，并創(chuàng)作了許許多多的驚世杰作，完成了自己對"月亮"的追逐。
The Moon and Sixpence is a novel by W. Somerset Maugham first published in 1919. It is told in episodic form by a first-person narrator, in a series of glimpses into the mind and soul of the central character Charles Strickland, a middle-aged English stockbroker, who abandons his wife and children abruptly to pursue his desire to become an artist. The story is in part based on the life of the painter Paul Gauguin, who was a French post-Impressionist artist and now is recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinctly different from Impressionism.

威廉·薩默塞特·毛姆，英國小說家、劇作家。代表作有戲劇《圈子》，長篇小說《人生的枷鎖》、《月亮和六便士》，短篇小說集《葉的震顫》、《阿金》等。毛姆被稱為英國的莫泊桑，其一生著作甚多，除詩歌以外的各個文學(xué)領(lǐng)域都有所涉及。他一生創(chuàng)作了長篇小說二十部，短篇小說一百多篇，劇本三十個，此外尚著有游記、回憶錄、文藝評論多種。其作品特別是長短篇小說，文筆質(zhì)樸，脈絡(luò)清晰，人物性格鮮明，情節(jié)跌宕有致，在各個階層都擁有相當(dāng)數(shù)量的讀者群。其作品被譯成各國文字，不少小說還被搬上銀幕。他是20世紀(jì)上半葉非常受人歡迎的小說家之一。
